Effective Communication (P2)

Understanding the principles of effective communication

Introduction
I have recently learnt about effective communication techniques that can help make communication more effective, informative and beneficial to both parties. As a result I learnt about the following skills and how they make communication effective. I particularly found use of technology interesting as I never knew that people find it easier learn things if you show them using computers.

General communication skills

Terminology: Depending on people you talk to, some people may not have a large knowledge of technology terminology as yourself so as a result it’s better to turn away from full jargon speech or explain in basic what the terminology means and here from their point of view on what the problem is.

Use of technology: If you’re trying to solve a problem you can use technology to your advantage for example you can use PowerPoint to create flow charts that show the person you talking to what went wrong and how you can fix this if the problem arises once more.

Interpersonal skills

Active engagement: I find that when I talk to most people you get a lot more information out of them and enthusiasm when you engage yourself in what their saying with simple nods of understanding or strong head nods to show absolute agreement in what they are saying.

Speed of response: Is very important as it shows that, either you the listener are listening to what the person is saying or if the roles in a conversation are switches, as for one that it shows that you are listening and that you do know what they are talking about and you know what they are talking about because if you remain quite after the person is speaking finished they will think that you were either not listening or you don’t understand, that is why it is important to be able to instantly respond to what the speaker has said.

Communicate in writing:

Emoticons: Emoticons are useful because when people communicate informally using text it lacks emotion and most things can be miss interpreted for example sarcasm “Ohh my day was wonderful!” could be interpreted as being positive however emoticons show exactly what you’re feeling or what other are feeling with cartoon faces J.

Proof reading: It’s important that you proof read your work, as if you’re applying for a job or writing a message to a friend they may read sentences that make no sense or contain way too many spelling mistakes or even missing punctuation making interpretation or reason for the message difficult to understand.

Personal attributes favoured by employers (P1)

Employable attributes
Introduction
I have been learning about employable attributes that employers find beneficial for their work place and I as a result have put down some attributes below that are favoured by the employers. I have learnt that there are many attributes that employers see as useful for their business.

Specific attributes

Technical skill and knowledge: Knowing what you doing is the most important attribute because going into a job with no knowledge of what your doing is impossible and most likely would get you fired quickly so all employers like to make sure that the person they are employing knows what they are doing in their job field.

Health and safety procedures: Following procedure when dealing specific component or computer, for example carrying a computer you will need steel cap work boots to protect your feet in case of an object falling on it. All employers need a person who is competent with the employers health safety regulations.

General attributes

Time management: Being able to deadline your team to do specific roles till a specific time so every member knows what they are doing. Most employers like this because they want someone who one is not lazy, and two able to get work done on time.

Planning skills: Being able to plan what your doing or what other employees are supposed to do is important, because if your able to plan what's going to happen in a day work usually gets done more efficiently and everyone knows what your doing even your employers.

Attitude attributes

Hard working: Employers usually keep people in their job and increase their  salaries if they show that they can work hard and even having ability to do more than the employer asks for.

Dependable: Its important to be dependable for your employer, because if you get work done well in a  particular field or the employer entrusts you with something they don't usually trust other people to do it usually means that they find you useful and indispensable.

Introduction

I first disassembled and reassembled a PC in 2011 for my work experience, in which I worked at Winchester College with my brother in the IT support department. I felt that every PC I disassembled and reassembled was good work and I enjoyed doing and as a result I wanted to get a job that involved computers. I started in Fareham College doing media, however I felt that if you wanted a job in media you would have to constantly advertise yourself to unknown employers who would use you part time, however I was more interested in getting a full time job which I felt IT could give me.

Presently i'm doing a Gaming and Computing course, in order to get my IT practitioners degree, in which I will be aiming to get a distinction, as a result I get closer to getting a job as a IT support team manager.

I'm hoping in the future to go to university and study IT so that it make me more employable and gives me a higher chance of getting a higher salary however first I need to get a distinction over all in my Gaming and computing course. After University I will search for a job in IT support management  or standard IT support so I can work up to getting my dream job.
